Hackathon Details

Event Day

10:00 AM: Participants & teachers must log in to the provided Zoom link.

10:15 AM: Code Battle team will announce the themes and share relevant guidelines.

10:30 AM: Teams will then be put into dedicated breakout rooms so they may collaborate and build their projects.

12:30 PM: Once the battle window has closed (in 2 hours), all teams would be brought back to the main Zoom stage.

12:30 PM - 01:15 PM: Teams will then be given an extra 30 min to record their presentation on loom or vimeo. Further details provided on event day.

01:30 PM: Closing remarks. Winners will be announced the next day.

Coding Platform

Cadet Group (Grades 1-4)

Any Block Based Platform e.g. Scratch, Code.org, Thunable etc.

Captain Group (Grades 5-8)

Any block / text based language / platform.

Colonel Group (Grades 9-13)

Any Block / Text Based Platform or Application

You will have 2 hours to complete your project.

Themes

You will be provided 2 themes. Choose any 1.

Presentation

Each team will record a 2 min video to explaining their project to the judges.

Team Submission

Schools may submit 2 teams per category.

Team Structure

Code Battle is a team event. Each team may have a minimum of 2, and a maximum of 3 participants.

What to carry

Laptop/tab & charger, enrollment confirmation, your creative best!

Judging Criteria

Teams need to score high in the following 5 criteria, plus add something extra to the mix.

Judges are looking for innovative solutions that have clean UI, excellent pitch and leverage collaboration.

Is there an admission fee for Code Battle?

No! Code Battle is FREE for students to participate in. However, since it is an inter-school event, nominations must come from schools.

Is there a limit on how many teams can join?

We must ensure we give a chance for all schools to participate. As such, we do on occasion restrict how many teams a school may submit; this usually depends on the size of the venue.

I don't code yet, can I learn?

Are there prizes?

Yes there are! Prizes worth over AED 10,000 to be won for the winners. Plus ALL participants get some free swag and certificates!

Who gets to compete at the nationals?
